Abstract
In Minnesota, 17 northern counties manage 2.8 million acres of land acquired through tax forfeiture. Commercial forestlands cover 82%. From 1979, the state has made in-lieu tax payments to counties for land management. Despite this aid, less money is spent per acre to manage county land than is allocated for comparable state and federal lands. Comments are made on sale of land and products, timber revenue, revenue bonds, land-sale investments, dedicated funds, user fees, stumpage prices, contingency funds, and fixed minimum fund, revenue plus general fund and general fund allocations. -P.J.Jarvis
