Abstract
Modification of Debye screening and Friedel-type oscillations are found in high-density QED and QCD. At distances r1/mel and in the ultrarelativistic limit the screened potential of two charges behaves like 1/42sin(2kFr)/r4. This may have implications for charmonium suppression in the fragmentation region in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions and for the screening of impurities in white-dwarf stars.
