title = "Free-surface turbulence measurements in an open-channel flow",
abstract = "Velocity measurements near a free surface are complicated by limitations on probe resolution and fluctuations of the free surface itself. This paper presents some experimental results obtained in a moving-bed flume constructed for research on free surface transport. Free surface velocities were measured using an adaptation of streakline photography. The streaks were digitized in order to perform a quantitative analysis, allowing us to determine autocorrelations and spectra of the velocities. The measured spectra verify that the velocity spectra measurements of Komori, et al. (1982) would carry a similar form to the free surface.",
