Abstract

In regenerative reciprocating machines, working fluid oscillates back and forth through heat exchangers. In the design and analysis of such devices, pressure drop and heat transfer correlations derived from unidirectional flow experiments are often used. This may not be appropriate. In this paper, various effects which distinguish unidirectional from oscillating flow are discussed and suggestions for further exploration of these effects are made.
