Abstract

In graphite-moderated nuclear reactors, the design life of the core is determined by the irradiation-induced changes in graphite. The property changes that occur within the polycrystalline structure of the graphite components can be attributed to irradiation damage to the individual crystals. This paper documents a finite-element model aimed at predicting dimensional changes in irradiated graphite components, including 'turn-around'.
