Felon disenfranchisement is the practice of restricting the voting rights of people convicted of felony-level crimes. This entry first explains the scope, origins, and political impact of voting bans on felons. Next, it discusses public opinion regarding the practice, the relation between voting and recidivism, and international variation in disenfranchisement law. Finally, there is a brief discussion of reform efforts.
