Abstract

The authors conducted a 'pre-pilot' quadrat sampling study to evaluate the feasibility of a region-wide monitoring program to estimate changes in the density of Mexican spotted owls (Strix occidentalis lucida). Based upon capture probability, abundance, and density estimates, the authors believe the proposed monitoring program to be feasible given the survey protocol provided.
