All groups increased physical activity levels during the eight-week intervention program. These increases were maintained through the six-month follow-up. Physical activity levels among groups given free access to exercise facilities did not differ from groups not given free facility access. Subjects in free pass groups reported using the sports facilities more frequently during the first half of the study but not during the second half or during follow-up compared to those not given free passes. Self- reward was not effective in increasing physical activity levels.
