Abstract
Results from an experimental study of mixed convection in a horizontal porous annulus are reported. Average Nusselt numbers as a function of the Rayleigh and Peclet numbers have been obtained for a radius ratio of 2. 0. Engineering correlations for Nusselt numbers are also reported. There is sufficient data to allow an interpretation of the transition from free to mixed to forced convection, and a single correlation for Nusselt numbers is suggested for the forced convection regime which is proposed to begin for a Peclet number greater than 200. Experimental data also permit a qualitative analysis of the flow restructuring as Peclet number is increased.
