Abstract

Proper exploitation of spatial supermodes in Michelson-type cavities reduces the sensitivity of coherent beam combining to path-length variations. The resulting radiance improvement is experimentally demonstrated in a common-path generalized Michelson cavity formed by polarization multiplexing the two gain arms into a common space.
