Abstract
Surgical management of pancreatic disease is complex and often requires a multidisciplinary approach. Within this chapter, we discuss the pertinent anatomy, embryology, physiology, and management of common pancreatic disease processes. We cover surgical and medical treatments for acute and chronic pancreatitis, review current management of pancreatic cysts, and discuss modern strategies focusing on improving outcomes for pancreatic adenocarcinoma and neuroendocrine tumors. While the role of the surgeon in managing pancreatic disease is evolving, operative intervention remains a mainstay of treatment for many of these conditions.
