Abstract
Cercospora leaf spot (CLS), caused by Cercospora beticola, is among the most devastating foliar diseases of sugar beet worldwide. Symptoms include small, circular, tan to brown spots that coalesce into large necrotic lesions when infection is severe, leading to reduced plant vigor and sucrose accumulation in the roots. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy of fungicide spray programs with emphasis on the timing of the initial fungicide application and subsequent intervals for management of CLS. The trial was conducted in 2024 in Crookston, MN, on a highly tolerant sugar beet variety (Beta vulgaris ‘Crystal 260RR’). Results from this trial will help sugar beet growers make informed decisions on fungicide spray programs for managing this disease.
