Abstract
The authors evaluate the monitor method of concurrent error detection in microprogramming control units, specifically in the microsequencer module. They examine a sequencer similar to the AMD2910 and an existing microprogram consisting of 1723 microinstructions. The authors describe the microprogram structure and the algorithms used, and they discuss the fault set and the simulation results. Traditional coding schemes for parts of the microsequencer are presented, and design rules are discussed. Preliminary results for the practical monitor case are given.
