Abstract
Recent advances in computer technology have made automatic data collection feasible for freeway surveillance and control, transit system monitoring, and intersection control. With such low-cost data sets, research designs based on time-series analysis can be used routinely to evaluate transportation system improvements. Time-series designs offer flexible, low-cost tools for evaluating transportation improvements. Some preliminary estimates of ramp-control impacts on an urban freeway are presented.
