Abstract
Endoscopic therapy of upper gastrointestinal cancers, especially early esophageal and gastric cancer, has revolutionized the management of these conditions in the last three decades. Endoscopic resection such as endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) serves a pivotal role in diagnosis, staging and curative resection of early esophageal and gastric cancer limited to mucosa. In this chapter, we will discuss the now widely used and highly effective therapy of EMR for early esophageal and gastric neoplasia. Types and techniques of EMR, clinical indications, and benefits and risks of its use in these two entities will be reviewed.
