Abstract

The purpose of this entry is to describe the origin of library collaborations, and its impact on the consortia, professional associations, the development of academic library training programs and library specialties. The methodology of this study is qualitative, and the technique used is a documentary analysis. As a result, a brief history of library collaboration from ancient civilizations to modern times is presented, as well as the origin of library consortia and guilds. It also describes the impact of technology in the creation of consortiums for access and use of information resources with research and academic proposes and the role of library science as part of this process.
