N2 - The purpose of this research was to study fatigue during electrical stimulation and to investigate potential physiological indicators of fatigue. A combined FES (functional electrical stimulation) stimulator and EMG (electromyographic) processor was designed and built to minimize the stimulus artifact, and software was written to control the stimulator during experiments, collect the data, and analyze results. The results of the able-bodied subjects had a wide variance which made identification of any relation between EMG parameters and torque difficult. However, in the experiments on the SCI subject, both parameters tracked muscle torque during FES. Thus, both EMG parameters may have the potential to be used as indicators of muscle fatigue during FES.
