Abstract

Native populations from across the distribution range were sampled and taxa were crossed in all possible combinations, including reciprocals. Two previously defined species exhibited strictly unilateral crossability. Electrophoretic analysis of denatured seed storage proteins revealed that molecular weight profiles fail to discriminate among annual forms but that isoelectric profiles are sensitive at discriminating subgeneric forms. Overall experimental results indicated the presence of several subgeneric groups in Zizania.
