Abstract

A multi-layer finite element model incorporating skin, fat, muscle, compact bone, and cancellous bone has been developed for upper arm, and the effects of boundary conditions on surface electromyographic (EMG) simulation results has been investigated. Insulating and absorbing boundary conditions have been examined through a series of computer simulations. Results show that the absorbing boundary condition setting is necessary for artificial boundaries in surface EMG simulation.
