Abstract
Velocity measurement results from an experimental investigation of the effects of flow oscillation on fluid mechanics and heat transfer in ducts are presented. Information about the performance of the experimental apparatus is provided along with a discussion, based on the data, about the nature of transition in oscillating flows in round ducts. It is confirmed that transition is a repeated event occurring twice during each oscillation cycle. Data which show the effects of flow oscillation frequency and magnitude on the time within the cycle when transition occurs is also discussed.
