Abstract

The novel contribution is the study of the impact of subharmonics generated by the PWM technique and by the imperfect operation of converters leading in some cases to the defect of ultrahigh speed induction machines (USIM). The problem is originated from an R&D work for industry. Results of numerical analysis of subharmonics are confirmed by computer simulations and laboratory tests. They are compared to the theory. The investigation was focusing on the problems connected with the special features and parameters of USIMs. It was revealed that in the operation of USIMs special problem emerges due to subharmonics.
