Abstract
The effect of free stream turbulence on local mass transfer from a circular cylinder is experimentally investigated for free stream Reynolds number from 3.0 x 104 to 8.3 x 104, turbulence intensity from 0.2% to 23.7% and integral length scale from 0.8 to 6.3 cm. The pattern of mass transfer distribution changes considerably with free stream turbulence. The effect of a splitter plate on local mass transfer is also studied. Information on the flow field near the surface is obtained from flow visualization using an oil/lampblack mixture.
