Abstract
Two different cereal straw pulps were used in an extensive lab study to evaluate the effect of straw pulp addition to a traditional wood fibre furnish: 0 to 30% cereal straw addition was used. Paper properties are not always linearly related to cereal straw content. A statistical model capable of describing paper properties at different cereal straw levels was developed. Reducing beating intensity of wood fibres can eliminate loss in tear and freeness caused by straw pulp addition.
