Abstract
Room‐temperature load‐relaxation tests were performed on γ‐irradiated and unirradiated NaCl single crystals. The σ‐ɛ reresults were analyzed in terms of Hart's constitutive equations for inelastic deformation. The log σ‐log ɛ curves for the unirradiated crystals were virtually flat, suggesting that both the high‐ and low‐temperature components of the flow stress were operating. The log σ‐log ɛ curves for the irradiated crystals were concave downward, indicating that the high‐temperature mechanism was dominating the flow stress.
