Abstract

A recent paper by the author in this Journal argued that inequality in Sri Lanka was lower after the 1977 economic liberalization policies were adopted. This conclusion was based on two household surveys taken in 1969-1970 and 1980-1981. This note re-examines the argument using five household surveys from 1969-1970 and 1981-1982. Although the conclusionstill holds in general, it is necessary to put it in a proper perspective.
