Abstract
After several time-consuming attempts at a redesign of a variable-speed drive were made by building prototypes, analytical procedures were sought to aid in a dynamic synthesis process. In order to reduce inertia forces as well as torque requirements on the speed control arm, kinematic, dynamic, and force analyses based on complex-numbers are programmed for digital computation. Computerized design and experimental testing combine to synthesize a greatly improved variable-speed drive.
