Abstract
The dissolution behavior of chromium carbide and titanium carbide (TiC) has been determined in boiling 2N H//2SO//4. The results are used to rationalize the effect of heat treatment on the dissolution behavior of AISI 304 stainless steel and titanium-stabilized AISI 321 stainless steel. Observations made during evaluation tests for intergranular corrosion of stainless steels are discussed in terms of the dissolution behavior of the stainless steels.
