Disorders of Forebrain Development

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

The prosencephalon forms at the end of primary neurulation as one of three principal vesicles: the hindbrain, midbrain, and forebrain (prosencephalon). The earliest disorder of prosencephalic formation, aprosencephaly-atelencephaly spectrum, is extremely rare. Major disorders of prosencephalic structures including holoprosencephaly, agenesis and hypoplasia of the corpus callosum, and septo-optic dysplasia, are described following a brief introduction to prosencephalic development.
