Abstract

The complex number method is applied to the dimensional synthesis of planar triads for six precision positions and motion generation with prescribed timing. A triad is a series of three binary links which can be part of many linkages. The solution for the displacement equation of the triad is developed through the use of compatibility equations. An interactive computer program which allows the user to find an appropriate triad from the Triad-Burmester curves for a specified motion is outlined. A numerical example of an eight-bar linkage is included.
