Abstract

In Part 1, a general design inference engine was introduced. Part 2 presents a dwell mechanism synthesis knowledge base for use with the inference engine. Specialized techniques for synthesizing 6-bar dwell linkages having straight line coupler curves are formulated into the knowledge base. The strategies for developing the knowledge base for dwell mechanisms will lead to a general expert system for design of linkage type dwell mechanisms.
