Abstract

A detachment algorithm was developed using H. A. Einstein's bed load transport concepts. This detachment algorithm is based on the probability of turbulent detachment forces exceeding the submerged weight of particles. In addition to the detachment algorithm, a theoretical inconsistency in Einstein's bed load formulation was corrected. The implications of this inconsistence were also discussed. The use of the algorithm was demonstrated in predicting the bed scour rate in detention ponds. These results showed that the model predicted values with proper trends.
