Abstract
The purpose of using defined data bases (minimal data bases and problem-specific data bases) is to provide systematic and consistent collection of data in the management of patient. Collected data is not usually biased by premature establishment of a tentative diagnosis. A clear distinction is made between recognition of a patient's problem list and plans to identify the causes of these problems. Rather than force data collection and facts to fit a preconceived diagnosis, it is acceptable and desirable to resolve problems only insofar as available data will allow.
