Abstract
The widespread use and continuing adaptation of electronic health records (EHRs) in healthcare has created an unparalleled opportunity to discover new medical knowledge. The range of this knowledge is unprecedented, encompassing treatment effectiveness, detailed patient population stratification, and causes of diseases, all which can lead to more personalized treatment. Data mining on top of EHR systems can help to end the “one-model-fits-all” treatment paradigm. These data can aid in tailoring treatment to the specific characteristics of the target patient, creating personalized medicine in the near future.
