Abstract

The intermetallic FePt alloy film with L10 ordered structure (fct-phase) has gained considerable attention due to its potential for ultra-high density recording media. For the perpendicular recording application fct-FePt films with c axis normal to the film have been prepared by various methods. Though the growth of fct-FePt film with c axis parallel to the film plane was reported, complex MBE technology and MgO or ScTiO3 single crystal substrate were required. In this work, fct-FePt films with both [200] and [001] preferred orientation on the CrRu[002]/glass was prepared by introducing some impurity such as air during the deposition and doping Ag in FePt films. Its mechanism was discussed.
