N2 - Vanadium‐doped forsterite single crystals have been crept at atmospheric pressure, at temperatures ranging from 1571 to 1923 K under controlled oxygen partial pressure, po2. In the absence of an oxide buffer, the creep strength, the activation energy (550 ± 100 kJ/mol), the stress exponent (3.5 ± 0.5), and the po2 exponent (1/8 to 1/4) for this material are similar to those for unbuffered iron‐bearing olivine. At po2= 10‐11 MPa and T= 1773 K, the strength of vanadium‐doped forsterite is slightly larger than that of undoped forsterite.
