Abstract
Detection of the presence of corrosion can be accomplished in two ways: detection of the agent that causes corrosion or detection of the results of the corrosion process either on the material of interest or on a test piece of the material. Both approaches can utilize sensors by using a chemically sensitive coating on the sensor to detect the corrosive agent or a coating of the material to be monitored for corrosion. Each of the two types of sensors are discussed.
