Abstract

The authors regret that, following publication of the article, the authors identified a programming error in the simulation study that allowed for the simulation to offer and transplant lungs from donors with incompatible blood types. This error led to increased rates of simulated transplants to candidates with blood type O that would not have been observed had the programming error not been made. The authors wish to correct results for blood type within section 3.5 of the article as follows: “Transplant rates for candidates with blood type O decreased from 1.53 transplants per patient-year to 1.07–1.10 transplants per patient-year under CAS scenarios, and rates of all other blood types increased compared with under current rules. Declines in waitlist deaths were predicted for all blood types (AB: 61.5%–69.2% decline; B: 43.8%–54.2% decline; A: 32.8%–42.4% decline; O: 6.0%–23.4% decline). The proportion of recipients with type O blood decreased from 45.4% to 39.6%–40.5%.” Trends in other results presented in the simulation study remained consistent. The authors would like to apologize for this error.
