Corneal microcysts in incontinently pigmenti

Abstract

Purpose. The purpose of this paper is to describe a new corneal finding in incontinentia pigmenti. Methods. Ophthalmic examinations of five individuals (ages 7 1/2 months to 47 years) from two different families with hereditary incontinentia pigmenti were performed. Confocal microscopy was used to examine the cornea m one patient. Results. Slit lamp biomicroscopy showed corneal microcysts in all five patients. Confocal microscopy localized the cysts to the cornea! epithelium. Conclusions. Corneal microcysts may be seen in individuals wilh incontinentia pigmenti. The cysts may be the only remaining sign in patients without other sequelae of the disease. None.
