Abstract

The role of the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) after total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has been stated as two-fold: preventing posterior tibial displacement and preserving normal knee kinematics (primarily femoral roll-back). 1 Femoral roll-back increases the quadriceps lever arm by moving the femorotibial contact location posteriorly with knee flexion. 2 Using anatomical and theoretical models, several authors 2-4 have agreed that roll-back is preserved in PCL-retaining TKA.
