title = "Control of normal shock by a single laser pulse",
abstract = "A comprehensive numerical study was conducted to understand the effect of a laser pulse on a normal shock of infinite extent. Two numerical models, namely an inviscid perfect gas model and a real gas model, were used to simulate the interaction. The normal shock was formed in a Mach 2 two-throat nozzle, and the laser pulse is focused upstream of the normal shock. The height of the normal shock is twenty times the radius of the hot spot to mimic a normal shock of infinite extent. Three different dimensionless energy levels(e =1, 10 and 100) were considered. The two numerical models showed the similar results. The interaction at e = 100 demonstrated a prominent upstream movement of the normal shock, while the interaction at ε = 1 hardly moved the shock.",
