Constructivism

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Chapter

Abstract

Constructivism was initially proposed as a guiding theoretical framework in reaction to logical empiricism. Constructivism is an epistemological enterprise and assumes that knowledge is organized in personal constructs and arises as a function of individual interpretive processes, best understood as cognitive complexity. Constructivism has since evolved into a theory that captures functional communication competence or the ability to generate and process messages in ways that enable people to accomplish their social goals.
