Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the future of sport, entrepreneurship, and development based on the preceding chapters. The purpose of the chapter is to (1) provide stakeholders in the SDP sector with suggestions for future avenues in social entrepreneurship (SE), innovation, and SDP, particularly relating to research and programmatic areas, and (2) offer a succinct discussion of the tensions and challenges of applying and utilizing SE and innovation in the international field of SDP. First, specific future research directions that require further empirical investigation and theoretical development in SDP are highlighted. Second, some programmatic foci in SDP that not only require further scholarly investigation, but also call for more attention in practice by SDP organizations, management, and funders are outlined. Third, the chapter highlights the need for local community involvement in creativity and bottom-up solutions for sustainable and meaningful SE and innovation in the SDP sector.
