Abstract

We have developed a computer-based instrumentation system which measures work expenditure and rowing technique on a rowing ergometer while conveying real-time feedback to the athlete. Rowing data may be saved on computer disks in order to analyze an athlete's performance over time and make comparisons between rowers. The system has been tested with respect to how well an athlete can reproduce specified levels of work output and physiological response by observing the system's feedback displays.
