Abstract
A computerized database system has been constructed specifically for use with a geriatric patient population. Biographic, medical test, and functional status information can be stored and accessed for in- and out-patients. The database addresses the special demands placed upon the health-care team when treating and caring for the demented elderly patient. This information is useful as data for retrospective research studies and as a source listing of potential experimental subjects. Benefits to clinicians can be seen in terms of time savings for patient chart review, patient visit cost accounting, and maintenance of continuity of care across institutional boundaries.
