Abstract

Use of the computer and interactive computer graphics has caused a major revolution in engineering methods; and, of course, engineering education must change to incorporate uses of these new tools as part of the engineer's education. Computer work must be incorporated into the engineering curricula. This paper presents a cost-effective solution - a microcomputer-based 3-D drafting system for education. Developed at the University of Minnesota, the system is currently being used by the Minnesota State Vo-Tech school system (approximately 22 schools) to expose their students to computer aided drafting. Capabilities of the system, new developments, and evaluation of the results are presented.
