Abstract
Large-bore devices used to cannulate the peripheral arteries, such as in intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP) or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy, can pose specific challenges and potential complications that the vascular specialist should be aware of. Local, regional, and distal vascular complications from the cannulation and action of IABP or ECMO are discussed.
