Abstract
This paper reports the results of a study of measured and calculated stress distributions in solid, ribbon, and simulated ring-slot parachutes. Stress measurements were accomplished using Omega sensors and the stresses were calculated using a finite element stress analysis code called CANO. In the case of the ribbon parachute, the inflated shape was measured and compared with the shape predicted using CANO.
