Abstract

Brushless exciter improves the reliability of the synchronous generator by eliminating the use of brushes and slip rings. However, compared to static excitation systems, conventional brushless exciter has very slow dynamic response of field current of the generator. This paper deals with the literature survey of various rotating brushless exciter systems which have been proposed to improve the dynamic response. It also discusses the merits and demerits of each topology. In addition, a comparison between the different brushless excitation systems was also done.
