Abstract

In order to test the feasibility of field implementation of a recently-developed real-time control policy for critical intersections the authors selected an algorithm suitable for predicting the arrival rates on a cycle-by-cycle basis. This task was carried out by first considering employment of existing algorithms. The most notable ones were selected and compared against field data for testing their reliability. The simplified algorithm is presented followed by the test results and conclusions.
