Abstract

The array processing of signals from multiple groups of sources is discussed. The need for a preprocessor using a set of orthogonal beamformers is demonstrated, and a weighting gain as an indicator of the improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio due to the preprocessing is introduced. An algorithm that incorporates double preprocessing procedures, including various combinations of prefiltering and the coherent signal subspace method's focusing procedure in angular sectors, is introduced. A bank of discrete prolate spheroidal sequences are used as orthogonal beamformers.
